Old toys including original Scrabble donated to Oxford school’s museum
Cheney School’s Rumble Museum held a collection afternoon on Friday, December 6.
The Museum of Oxford also displayed various artefacts, while Ms Gersh, a data manager, showcased toys she had designed during her previous career as a toy designer.
Bernard Stone, an alumnus from the Cheney Technical School in the 1950s, contributed an array of objects.
Students, staff, and parents were able to explore the artefacts and share their childhood stories.
BBC Radio Oxford interviewed attendees about their childhood experiences.
The stories and objects collected will form part of a new exhibition about the History of Childhood, to be displayed in converted old lockers.
This exhibition will be curated by the school’s museum council students, with assistance from the Museum of Oxford, and will open later in 2025.
The school is still accepting donations of childhood toys, games, and books.
Anyone interested in donating can email [email protected].
The Rumble Museum is the only Arts Council accredited museum located throughout a state school, and provides opportunities for museum learning and artefact handling across every year group and faculty.
The museum is incorporated into lessons and has allowed students to get involved in the day-to-day running of a museum.
