Person dies after walking onto 417 east of Ottawa

A person is dead after walking into the lanes of Highway 417 east of the city near Anderson Road.

The person had gone off the highway into the median in their vehicle, but then walked back into the highway where they were struck and killed, Ontario Provincial Police said.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP received a call for the collision at about 4:30 Tuesday morning. Ottawa police, fire and paramedics also responded to the scene.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed at Anderson, and traffic was being diverted while police continued their investigation.
