A woman was taken into custody after a possible case of child abuse was reported on a flight bound to Edmonton.

Mounties were called to the Edmonton International Airport (Yeg) by a flight crew at 8:53 p.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, police boarded the WestJet airplane, which had flown from Toronto, and arrested the mother of the child.

The infant was taken to hospital for minor injuries and was ultimately transferred to child and family services.

The mother was released without charges.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
